St. Abigail
Feast Day: February 11
Patroness of honeybees and beekeepers
St. Abigail is a medieval Irish saint who had an angel appear to her, urging her to move inland. The angel advised that the place would be marked by 9 white deer. According to early Celtic folklore, the soul departs from the body in the form of a bee or butterfly. Given her deep Christian faith, and belief in the Resurrection, she became a beekeeper. She would use honey to treat illness and heal wounds.
