When Pope Pius IX visited the church and monastery at Trinità dei Monti he questioned a large cloth hanging. Despite the Mother Superior's best efforts to distract the pope, he persisted. As the moved the fabric he was awed by what he named "Mother Most Admirable". This image that struck the pope just years prior was deemed too bright and bold however, it appears that time was kind to the painting.
