"šš¦š³š“š° š'š¢ššµš°", an Italian phrase, which when translated means "toward the top", was written on a photo of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati climbing a mountain while looking up, by Bl. Frassati himself. Bl. Frassati was a young Italian man, who loved alpine climbing and serving others, especially the poor. He died in 1925 at the age of 24. ā£
At his funeral, the city streets were filled with mourners, unknown to his family, of people who were influenced by his service. It is said that Bl. Frassati influenced St. John Paul II as a young man. St. John Paul II referred to him as the āš š®š» š¼š³ ššµš² šš¶š“šµš šš²š®šš¶ššš±š²šā. ā£

This phrase speaks to Blessed Frassati's life: "always seeking what enhances, that which carries us beyond ourselves, toward the best we can be as people, toward the best of ourselves. It is to strive toward perfection of life; in other words, toward sainthood. It means to strive toward the source of life, that is, God."
